NaNoWriMo

It's NaNoWriMo time again. The plan is to the write the antagonist's half of my fantasy novel. So far - day 6 and doing okay. A little behind but the work was was crazy.

October 14

Let's see. August's submission came back as did both of September's. I hadn't meant to send two but a computer/email glitch made me think the first one hadn't gone through. Thankfully I was smart enough to send a different story to the second market.

Today, I took a personal obligation day to extend the long weekend. I spent a few hours at the library and began a new short story for an upcoming anthology. Over 500 words for the day - a good start.

November 1 - NaNoWriMo begins

The last time I successfully completed NaNoWriMo I noticed a pattern. Fridays were my least productive days and Mondays my most. Counter-intuitive to me but I suppose, after the work week, my brain was tired.

This year, NaNo begins on a Friday. For whatever reason, perhaps that I didn't want to start in a deficit, I made my quota.

I'm hoping to see mostly green squares on the calendar. They are very motivating.

My fundraising for the Office of Letters and Light continues. Every little bit helps. I do believe if something like the Young Writers Program had existed when I was a student, I would have started writing seriously much earlier.

Word count - 1,723

Reason for stopping - finished the opening scene and it's getting late

Snippet - None today. Still feeling out the situation.

It's a sign

I can tell my summer was filled with health issues, job stress and mild insanity. Few words written. No blog posts.

I can't promise it will radically change but I have two weeks of vacation coming up - part of the plan is to write. Come November, I'm also taking part in NaNoWriMo. If nothing else, I will try to update word count every day.

Progress - August 31, 2012

I didn't do as well on updating here as I'd hoped. However, after scrapping the first day's work and writing about 19,000 words from last Saturday to last night, I finished the first draft of Long Legged Beasties. A day before the deadline for Camp NaNoWriMo.

I was astonished to do it. At one point in the month I was so far behind I didn't think it was possible to catch up. But I did. The first draft is finished and I'm taking a little break to focus on unpacking and organizing the apartment I moved into in July. After that, I begin revisions on the NaNoWriMo novel (Environmental Hazard) I wrote last November.

I may share a snippet or two from LLB later in the weekend.

ScriptFrenzy Update

Well, I have fallen off the script bandwagon. Could be due in part to the subject I chose. I love the story and want to do more with it but a script is not quite right.

I do need to get back to writing. I've been focusing on some other parts of my life and the writing has slipped further down the list than I like.

Perhaps one of my birthday resolutions will be to write a little every day. (What? Doesn't everyone make birthday resolutions?)

2011 Review

After nearly 1.5 years of not writing, 2011 saw words.

I:
- finished a 4900 word short story
- added 6925 words to the fantasy novel
- 'won' NaNoWriMo with a 50052 word romance/thriller novel

In 2012, I want to:
- polish the short story and submit it
- finish the first draft of the fantasy novel
- polish the romance novel and consider what to do with it

NaNoWriMo - November 14, 2011

I'm a little behind on NaNo but I should be able to make it up over the next day or two. (Once I start tonight's scene, I have to finish it ... no matter how long it turns out to be.)

However, I have an event Wednesday that will likely mean no writing. I'll have to make that up too. Good thing I don't have much in the way of weekend plans for the rest of the month.

NaNoWriMo - November 6

I spent this weekend in Toronto visiting friends and receiving a relaxing and fun half-birthday present. I didn't write much on Friday (much of the evening involved waiting for the bus - 2 hours standing in the cold - riding the bus, riding the subway, topped off with a great visit with friends) but made up the words over the last two days.

I'll a little surprised that I've managed to meet goal six days in a row. Here's to another twenty-four.

A teeny snippet:

I opened the door and stepped out to face A and the three way mirror. Even under the fluorescent lights, I knew the emerald green flattered me and the dress ... "Where did you find this?" I asked.

A stepped up behind me and rested her chin on my shoulder. "Don't ask. What do you think of it?"

"Breakfast at Tiffany's."

She smiled. "I know. And you look as gorgeous as she did."

NaNo - November 1

First day and I made goal.

My NaNo book is a romance/thriller/mystery set in the modern world. Due to that, I don't have a lot of extra world building to do. A nice change from the fantasy books.

I'll offer a little snippet at the end of the week.

I owe an update

Words did happen during my vacation. Not as many as I would have liked perhaps but words. The last couple of weeks have been busy at the office and I let this blog fall to the bottom of the to-do list.

In an attempt to shake loose the novel, I'm taking a break from it to take part in NaNoWriMo. I'm going to work on a story that's been in the back of my mind for a number of years. There will be, if not daily, frequent updates on my progress. Promise.
